Obtuse Angle
Let's face it, it's a fact...when something is fun, we tend to remember it better. When we include our entire body, brain and voice, we tend to understand it better too!

Straight Angle
This is one of my favorite things to teach ~ angles. Go Math in Florida spends one whole day, yep, that's right, one whole day for eight year olds to be introduced, retain, remember and APPLY the knowledge of angles, acute angles, obtuse angles, straight angles and right angles. So, if you haven't guessed it already, let me tell you how I really feel...one day is not enough! :)

Right Angle
So I have everyone stand up and use their arms for the angles. At the same time we say their name, but each angle has a different voice...
- Acute Angle ~ is smaller than a right angle, it is small and cute. So it has a teeny, tiny voice, like baby bear.
- Right Angle ~ is PERFECT and exactly 90 degrees, no more, no less. So it has a professor type voice, very distinguished.
- Obtuse Angle ~ is larger than a right angle, but smaller than a straight angle. Obtuse and Obese comes from the similar Latin words obesus and obtusus. So an obtuse angle is fat and sits around the house, the obtuse angle has a low, slow voice. I even go so far as to squat down, puff out my cheeks and say that the obtuse angle has not left the apartment in year, only getting fat on delivered pizza!
- Straight Angle ~ 180 degrees, a straight line. So the straight angle low and quiet. The straight angle doesn't really want to hang out with the other angles, so he whispers...."I'm a straight angle, good bye!"
It is very silly, but guaranteed they will remember their angles!
