Sarah, Plain and Tall

"Did Mama sing every day?"
Caleb asks his sister Anna.
"Every-single-day," she answers.
"Papa sang, too."
I read this part and I about started boo-hooing!
Do you have a book that you know you should have read as a child or as a teacher, but never read?
Well, I had never read Sarah, Plain and Tall. I was in one of my friend's classroom on Wednesday and saw it and asked if I could borrow it. I finished it that night! {Wooo-hooo, way to go Fern, you finished a 3rd grade level book in one night, my mother would be so proud of me!} But it was terrific, I couldn't put it down. If you have never read it, it is about a motherless family living on a prairie and the Papa puts an ad in the paper, asking for a wife, and he receives a letter from one Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton, of Maine! The Papa, Anna and Caleb write back to her and she decides to come out and give it a try for a month....that's it, no more, I have a tendency to give away the entire book! :)
I was even reading some of the parts to my husband, since he grew up on a farm and could relate to parts of the book! I teach Third Grade Math and Science this year, so I don't teach Reading. But I have great files, because as a Navy Wife, you never know when you have to change grades, subjects, schools, etc. My hubby is retired now, but you never know.... here is a terrific FREEBIE I have in my files from TeachersPayTeachers that have been made by The Wise Guys.
