Holly Bloggy Christmas Gift!

It's My Holly Bloggy Christmas Gift!
This year I sponsored 2011 Holly Bloggy Christmas Gift Exchange. All the money went to Toys for Tots and everyone received a virtual stocking of Teacher Downloads. I included two of my favorite TPT products. It was a lot of fun and I was looking forward to it. We exchanged names and sent a new friend out in the Blog World a gift. I sent my new friend
Christmas Lighted Flamingos from Florida, Colored Sharpies, Stickie Notes & Chocolate

and my hubby drew on the box for her!

My Secret Santa person was Chrissy from First Grade Found Me! She gave me peppermint popcorn from the Popcorn Factory, yummy! She is wonderful, it was a great gift!
Here is the picture where I'm trying to be serious to send it to the Holly Bloggy Christmas post, but I like the picture on the top of the post where I'm being silly for my teens better!

Merry Christmas Night to Everyone!

Holly Bloggy Christmas is closed, but they are having a link up party....Head on over there, you might find a new Blog you never knew that will change your World! :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year From My Home To Yours!

How Was Your Christmas Party?

My Teen Did a Nice Job Wrapping the Student Gifts!
Inside was a Christmas Ornament Bell & a Candy Cane
I Made Them Look at the Gift Table All Day!
They Were So Excited Trying To Guess What I Bought Them!

Ever year I teach, someone always gets sick!
FINALLY!! This year no one was sick! Yipee!
Thank God for Small Miracles!

This is my first year back full time and I didn't know what to get them. I saw these cute little bell Christmas ornaments at Walgreens for 99 cents. It was the first Tuesday of the month, so with the military discount that day they only cost me 84 cents. The gift bags, candy canes and bows were free due to our couponing at Walgreens. They loved them!

I played a little game with them to stir up the excitement. I let the December birthdays pick their bags first, but no one was allowed to open the gift. Then the December birthday kids had to decide what month to pick next. IT WAS SO CUTE!!! To watch them work together to pick a month was funny. If there was only one child during a certain month they were so excited to be the only one to pick the next month!

After we opened the gifts and cleaned up we went outside to recess. As we were lining up to go in I started hearing all these bells. I didn't realize that so many of them had brought them outside and was ringing the bells to get everyone to line up!
SO.STINKING.CUTE!!

Holiday Craziness? I'm Determine To Focus On The Positive!

Full Moon!?!?
Crazy Weather!?!?
Christmas Is Coming!?!?
Performance Matters Testing!?!?
No matter what is causing it, woooohooooo, everyone is ready for the vacation! The dear little darlings are ready for Christmas, and so am I!!! But the State of Florida says they have to take 3 different tests on a computer ~ Performance Matters in Reading, Math and Science. All week {OK, it's only Tuesday, but it has been a long week so far!!!} I have said to my team, "Just focus on the positive." When they tell me something wonderful or when we see something sweet, we look at each other and repeat, "Just focus on the positive." It works! Our Performance Matters scores are THROUGH THE ROOF!! ~ Just focus on the positive! It is keeping us calm and helping me to deal with their behaviors that are just NOT that calm!
But today was the best, awhile ago, Mrs. M had our children write letter to our school secretary's son. He is a soldier in Afghanistan. She then bound the letters into a book and sent it to him. They were wonderful, the letters would make you cry! We 'team teach' ~ she teaches Reading, we teach Math...some of her students are my babies too! So jump back to today, he called them from Afghanistan!!! When one of our ESOL students had a chance to talk to him, he said, "You will be in my heart always!" What a great kid! When Mrs. M was telling us, we couldn't even say, "Just focus on the positive!" Mrs. O and I were too busy trying not too cry! What a great day! :)

Multiplication Timed Tests Make Cute Christmas Links!

Fern Smith's Classroom Ideas Multiplication Timed Tests Make Cute Christmas Links!
Math "Christmas Links"
If you're new to my blog, I'm a third grade teacher who is 'teaming' this year. I teach Math and Science while my friends teach Reading and Social Studies. I can't believe I never did this before!! It is less stress & less planning, but our students' scores are also SKY ROCKETING because we are becoming so very good at our subject matter!! :)

Now, although we've taught a million years, I have been trying to come up with new and exciting things on the fly this year with Math & Science. This one is a hit! Most of our boys and girls were not to concerned with memorizing their facts. I know, I know, everyone learns and grows at different rates, but there comes a time that you just have to buckle down and memorize the last of those facts to make the rest of your math career easier!
Ask.any.junior.high.teacher!!!

We have use Math Magician online, but finally started giving the boys and girls timed multiplication tests with a Pizza Party as a final reward. Our portables have very little wall space for posters and charts, so this sprang to mind the other day....

In the pass I use to have the children make class chains when we mastered an AR test. Each link was one passed test. So now in Math, when they pass their 'ones' test or their 'six' test, our Math students earn a link! This picture is what the Morning Class chain looked like after their zeros, ones & twos! Then to expanding it a little further we decided to make it a contest of whoever can best estimate the number of links will get to take the entire thing home! They walk into the room counting the links ~ I LOVE SEEING THEM SO EXCITED!

The Last Thing On Your Wishlist Is Your Name Song!

When my helpers are passing out papers, the first thing the students do is sing this little sing song ~

The First Thing On Your Paper Is Your Name!
{Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It!}
The first thing on your paper is your name,
The first thing on your paper is your name.
The teacher needs to know who did your work and so,
The first thing on your paper is your name!

USUALLY they are all settled down with pencils and their names on their papers by the time we sing this song once, maybe twice, and I can give directions or the mini-lesson without wasting time getting everyone to focus on me.
But with the holiday excitement fast approaching it is taking longer to get everyone settled. So I came up with this silly little tune ~

The Last Thing On Your Wishlist Is Your Name!
{Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It!}
The last thing on your wishlist is your name,
The last thing on your wishlist is your name.
Santa needs to know who to deliver your gifts to so,
The last thing on your wishlist is your name!

They ♥♥LOVED♥♥ it! So now it gives them a few more seconds to get ready for the lesson and I can hold it over their head! If they are having trouble getting ready for my class after changing classes, I don't let them sing the Christmas version. That gets them quiet quickly and they love to sing it!
