Back To School ~ CHAMPS In My Classroom 2012 Update!

Easily using a CHAMPS behavior prgram for Small Groups!
 CHAMPS for Small Groups!
My students and I have been living together for ten days, because of CHAMPS, they are so good!
I believe in CHAMPS, it works! I've used it for over four years. Basically if you tell the children your expectations, they will live up to them. Our school is suppose to have the worse kids, I adore them, they behave for me! :) CHAMPS is one of the reasons! When you attend a CHAMPS workshop or read the book there is sooooo much to choose from, it is designed for K -12th and for any class type.

CHAMPS Stands For
C = Conversation
H = Help
A = Activity
M = Movement
P = Participation
= Success!
Well if you teach K to 6th, this is what works for me and it might work for you. I teach two ways in my room, a mini-lesson with direct instruction for about 10 - 15 minutes and then small group center work. So I only have to have two choices for each expectation. I use thumbtacks and the yellow cards are back to back, so while I am reviewing the expectations, I can very easily flip them over.

C = Conversation
2 Whisper
H = Help
Ask 3 Then Me {When I am working with small groups and the students are in centers, they need to ask three other students first, then interrupt me at small group. Very rarely will they have to interrupt the teacher. This definitely needs to be role played at the start because you will have some that can't wait to "ask 3!" If three children cannot help the child, then I need to stop and make sure the entire class understands the directions.}
A = Activity
Learning
M = Movement
Restroom {When I am working with small groups the students may not go from center to center, but they may go to the restroom without asking.}
P = Participation
Everyone {This never changes!}
S = Success!
I hope this helps you jump start

Before and After Classroom Pictures For the 2012 School Year!

AFTER: Front & Center of Room, Ready for Meet the Teacher Day
Since I worked Summer School Reading Camp, I was able to keep my room up. Nothing faded and since I really liked the dark blue-light blue-black theme, I was going to use it again this year. It is really hard to make the 1970's brown wood paneling exciting, but here are my before and after pictures as we get rolling this year!
BEFORE: Front & Center of Room

 BEFORE: Back Left of Room
 AFTER: Back Left of Room
Math Center, Math Supplies, Vocabulary Board &
Gathering Area for Math "Areas of Concern" Board

Math "Area of Concern" Board
I'm going to use this board to spiral and review the areas that our school wide test results show we are lacking in ~ fractions, measurement and geometry.
 BEFORE: Back Right of Room at Front Door
 AFTER: Back Right of Room at Front Door
I got a new {actually old and busted, but storage is storage} cabinet and new posters based on our "Areas of Concern." The bottom six pages are third grade's Common Core Standards in kid friendly language.
 Plants are trying to come back to life....
Not a cook and not a gardener, oh well, acceptance is part of life! :)

 AFTER: My Desk, Fridge & Micro
NOTICE ~ Sub Plan Folder smack dab on the left hand side of my desk!
The front of my desk is a fractions area, another "Area of Concern."
Well everyone, that's it...it's old, brown paneling, but I love it! My friend in fourth grade calls her portable a LEARNING COTTAGE & so my hubby now calls mine a LEARNING CABANA!
