Following the Above Sequence, Here Are the Lesson Plan Ideas:
Monday - Project page 1, to introduce Color By Code to your class with a step by step direct teacher-led lesson on the overhead document camera. I start by showing the students line by line what color is the answer to what word. So for example, "bat = orange" I color the entire "bat =orange" in the CODE BOX with an orange crayon. Once your students know your procedures, the remaining pages can be used by your students independently. An alternative, based on the ability level of your class, is that this teacher-led lesson can also be completed during your reading small group lesson on Monday.
Tuesday - Use page 2 during morning work, math seat work, math centers or small group time.
Wednesday - Use page 3 during morning work, math seat work, math centers or small group time.
Thursday - Use page 4 during morning work, math seat work, math centers or small group time.
Friday - Use page 5 during morning work, math seat work, math centers or small group time. For a "Fun Friday" let your students use markers, pastels, colored pencils, or watercolor paints today. It may not be perfect, it may be a little messy, but after five days you will have a great understanding and enough documentation to know if your students know their long vowels.
