This week's tip is about transitioning from your classroom to another location.

If we were going to recess, "A YES Line" meant a few extra minutes on the playground. If we were going to PE, or Music, or the Library, a YES line might mean a few minutes of King Chase Queen at the end of the day, anything that your group might love that year as a reward.
It will cost you absolutely nothing, but your kids are going to ♥love this reward!
When everyone is moving around right before walking into the lunch room door, and you notice one person not having a friend to sit with, you can single this person out in a positive, wonderful way.
Let's pretend it is Amy, if you see no one is including her, you can say, "I love how quiet and polite Amy is being, would someone like to include this good citizen?" Then, BAM, if no one says anything in that split second, say, "Amy, why don't you go right to the front of the line and pick someone to go with you." Instantly, everyone will want to be her friend. :)

What a great idea! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea...I can totally make this fit with my warm fuzzy jar. The class gets a fuzzy in the jar every time they have great behavior. Their "YES" line could mean that they get a fuzzy toward a movie party, pajama day, etc. We often reward the "secret walker" for good hallway behavior. The kiddos all want to be "the one":). Thanks for the ideas! ajenes@tpaak.org
ReplyDeleteBless you for being sensitive to a child that doesn't get picked! This positive reward is surely a crowd pleaser! You are so clever!

Love these ideas, especially the one for "Michelle". What a great way to reward kids!
ReplyDeleteI have been struggling with this exact situation. I love this idea! I will definitely incorporate this starting tomorrow for our transition line. As a class, they do struggle with just about anything you can imagine. It is only recently too. I am not sure why they decided to start struggling while transitioning but I hope this idea does work. A 'Yes Line' I will keep you posted with how this goes. Thanks, again, for the great idea!!
ReplyDeleteTerrific, so glad I could help. Fern :)
