Tuesday Teacher Tips: Pull Out Classes
Every Tuesday Michelle, from Teach 123, and I will have a new installment of my favorite post, Tuesday Teacher Tips!
This week's tip is about helping the students in your classroom that leave during the day for some sort of pull out class.
There is nothing crazier than the first week, or even the first month of school. The larger your class, the harder it is to remember where everyone needs to be and at what time and what day. Yes, many schools follow a "push-in" method where the Special Education Teacher comes to the classroom, but there are still Speech classes, Gifted classes, OTPT, medicine after lunch, and the list goes on and on.
While it is your responsibility to make sure every student is where they need to be, it is also your responsibility to TEACH!
What's a teacher to do?
One of my favorite tips ever is to put a little personalized clock on the student's desk who have to leave. You don't need to worry about privacy and embarrassing the student, the other students know that child leaves every Tuesday and Thursday for Speech classes at 1:00! They all love to know each others' business and if you are having a year of Busy Bodies, give them all a clock. Then ask each child what time do they want their personalized clock to show. Recess? Lunch? Dismissal? Then everyone has their own clock and you can tell the little Busy Bodies, "You have your own clock, mind your own business!" :) Sweetly, of course! You can even have a Room Mom or Parent Volunteer come help you one day. It takes a little bit of effort up front, but it will pay off the entire year when your students don't miss their pull out classes, while you are busy teaching small groups, etc.

This helps you, the teacher, not have to stop and hopefully miss out on your limited instruction time.
