Bright Ideas Blog Hop: Organizing Important Papers for Meet the Teacher Day

Setting Out The Important Papers For Meet the Teacher Day!
I've taught over 20 years and I've never worked at a school that had all the important papers for the families ready to go early for Meet the Teacher Day.
It wasn't the school's fault, maybe the "BIG" copy machine broke, {Died from the "return from summer" slam!} maybe it was a late delivery of Handbooks from the District Office, it could have been a great idea the team leader just came up with, whatever the reason, you can get upset, angry and sweat like C.R.A.Z.Y if you're in the 100 degree heat here in Florida. You can develop an ulcer even before school starts....OR, you can try this little trick this year and then come back and let me know if it helped you go home happy, calm and ready to face all the students the next day!

* Take all the papers that you keep getting and set them up buffet-style at your reading table {see picture} or push students desks together to form a long table.
* Then have the families start at one end of the table ONLY and work their way to the end of the table AND have the sign-in sheet AT THE END of all of the papers. That way they usually wouldn't take just a few of the papers and get out of line.
* This way you can keep the line going one way, while you smile and make small talk with everyone and this will make sure everyone gets all the different forms and items they need to take home.
* BEST PART.... you can add a stack of anything to the end of the "buffet-line" if the office continues to send anything, anything at all, at the very last minute!
That's the tip, I hope it helps!

  1. Great tip! And so true! We are still given papers to hand out AFTER the parents have arrived! I like this idea better than scattering throughout the room. Thanks Fern!

  2. Great organization tip! We always have last minute papers after we have already put together our bundles!
